Tricks to Keep Your Closet & Clothes Smelling Fresh

Victory Closets makes custom closet designs that are reconfigurable without tools and can be in all kinds of styles like walk in closets, mudroom storage, pantries, linin closets, and more in the eastern Pennsylvania area.

Even with high-quality detergents or fabric cleaners, you may notice occasionally that the clothes you pull from your closet or drawers have an odd smell. Whether you’re dressing for date night, an evening out with friends or family, or even heading to work, this is not something you want to have happen.

We can help you combat this common complaint by offering a few tricks we’ve found that will help keep your clothes smelling great.

Air Fresheners

Air fresheners can work well for keeping clothing smelling great. Even tucking away old car air fresheners in the back of your closet or dresser drawer will work. Of course, you’ll want to be mindful of the scent you choose, experimenting until you find one that works best for you.

Bar Soap

Strongly-scented soaps wrapped in thin fabric (to protect your clothing from the soap) can share their fragrance with the rest of your wardrobe.

coffee groundsCoffee Grounds

If you’re one of the millions of people who starts their day off with coffee, you already have a fantastic foul-odor absorber. Poke some holes in a container of coffee grounds, close the lid, and place it in your closet. You should replace the coffee grounds monthly for best results.

Dryer Sheets

Much like the air freshener, a used dryer sheet can still have enough fragrance left to keep your closet and drawers smelling great. Tuck it away in a corner and enjoy one of the cheapest freshening options.

Perfumed Cotton Balls or Tissue Paper

There are a few creative ways in which you can employ cotton balls and tissue paper to keep your closet and clothing smelling great. Spray your favorite scent onto some cotton balls or balled up tissue paper, allow them to dry, and directly place them on a shelf or in a drawer. Alternatively you can place them in small glass jars that are covered with thin fabric.

Vinegar

Another great deodorizer, vinegar works wonders for keeping your clothing smelling fresh. Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray a small amount on your garment to test. If there’s no visual color change, you’re safe to spray your clothing. We recommend turning your clothing inside out first. Don’t worry about the vinegar smell; it will leave as it dries.
